Manas National Park

Manas National Park is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site in Bodoland which is located on the foothills of the Himalayas. This gorgeous wildlife location here is known for its abundance of flora and fauna where you can spot some striking rare and endangered animals. The haven-like surroundings of this park are perfect to nurture your soul and help you connect with nature.

  • Elephant safari: The elephant safari is the best way to discover the dense areas of the forests. You have to visit the Bansbari Zone of Manas to enjoy an elephant back ride. Time: 06:00 AM - 7:00 AM | 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM.
  • Jeep safari: To spot the unique fauna species of Manas from a safe distance, you can arrange a thrilling jeep safari. This safari is conducted in both the Bhuyanpara and Bansbari ranges of Manas. Time: 06:30 - 9:30 | 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM | 02:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

Raimona National Park

Raimona National Park is another contiguous forest area in Bodoland which is a perfect spot for some exhilarating jungle safari. This park is mainly popular among tourists due to the population of golden langurs, which is an endangered species and is called the mascot of the Bodoland Territorial Region. Apart from this animal, this national park is also home to various other wildlife species including more than 150 species of butterflies, 170 species of birds, and 300 varieties of flora.

  • Jeep Safari: Hiring a Jeep is one of the best ways to unleash the unique charm of Raimona. The Kochugaon Central Range Jungle Safari and the Western Range Jungle Safari are the ranges for jeep safari. Herein, you can hire the jeeps either for half-day or full-day visits.

Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary

Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary is another ideal location for jungle safari in Bodoland. This forest area was recognized as a wildlife sanctuary to protect the natural, floral, and faunal significance of the region. During your safari here, you will surely be amazed at the wildlife sightings of endangered and endemic species including golden langurs, 10 species of reptiles, and almost 20 kinds of mammals. During your safari in Chakrashila, don’t forget to visit the Tapoban Community Conservation Centre for Golden Langurs for an amazing experience.

Magical Creatures To Spot In Bodoland

Golden langurs

Gee’s golden langur (Trachypithecus geei), also known as the golden langur, is an Old World monkey endemic to the region. This endangered primate was first spotted by Edward Pritchard Gee during the 1950s.

Bengal tiger

The Bengal tiger is a population of the Panthera tigris tigris subspecies and the nominate tiger subspecies. It ranks among the biggest wild cats alive today which helps in maintaining a diverse forest ecosystem.

Gaur

The gaur (Bos gaurus) is a bovine native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. It is the largest species among the wild cattle and the Bovidae.

Indian rhinoceros

The Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis), also known as the greater one-horned rhinoceros, is a rhinoceros species found only in this part of the world.

Assam roofed turtle

The Assam roofed turtle (Pangshura sylhetensis) is a rare and critically endangered species known only to a few individuals. These exotic species can be found in the freshwater and terrestrial habitats, small rivers, and fast-flowing streams of Bodoland.

Indian pangolin

The Indian pangolin (Manis crassicaudata), is an extremely rare animal. It is not common anywhere in its range and is threatened by hunting for its meat and various body parts used in traditional medicine.

Pygmy Hog

The pygmy hog (Porcula salvania) is a very small and endangered species of pig and the only species in the genus Porcula. Currently, Manas National Park is the only place in the entire world where these tiny hogs can be found.
