Celebrate Culture, Color, and Unity in Bodoland!

The Bodoland Territorial Region is home to the Bodo tribes who are one of the early settlers of the Northeast India. These indigenous tribes of Bodoland celebrate various diverse fairs and festivals throughout the various seasons of the years. During these times, all the people of Bodoland come together to celebrate the religious, seasonal, and agricultural festivals with huge grandeur.

Magw Domasi

Magw Domasi or Magh Bihu is a festival celebrated by bodos during the Makar Sankranti of Assamese calendar. During this celebration, the Bodo women wake up in the morning to prepare various traditional delicacies and offer prayers to god for the flourishing of the agriculture.

Baishagu

Baishagu is celebrated in Bodoland with great pomp and enthusiasm to celebrate the start of the Bodo year. This springtime festival is enjoyed by the local people with various cultural events and musical performances. A community prayer called “Garjasali” is also performed together by the people on this day.

Bathow Puja

A religious festival that you can witness in Bodoland is Bathow Puja on the month of June. This puja is done by the Bodo Kacharies worship a god, which is called by different names and is also performed in various forms. Among all the forms of Bathow Puja, the Kherai festival is the most well-known.

Dwijing Festival

Dwijing or the Aie River Festival is the most popular festival in Bodoland which is celebrated on the banks of the Aie River. This 12 day festival is organized by the Assam Tourism Department on December in order to highlight the customs and culture of Bodoland while promoting the majestic local river tourism. Take a part in this festival to enjoy some amazing cultural and adventurous extravaganza such as river rafting, cultural performances, and other adventure activities.

Baokhungri festival

The Baokhungri festival in Bodoland is organized on the first day of the Bodo calendar. This festival is basically an adventurous event that held annually on the Baukungri Hills in Kokrajhar. During this event, you can witness some amazing traditional sports, ethnic foods items, and folk culture. A trek to the peak of the hill is also organized during the festival.

Bhairabkunda Tourism Festival

A tourism event celebrated on the month of January every year in Bodoland is the Bhairabkunda Tourism Festival. This event is particularly organized in the Bhairabkunda Tourism Complex on the banks of river Dhansiri. The main goal of arranging this event is to showcase the rich local culture and promote tourism. The key features of this festival are jungle safari, traditional cuisines, folk dance and music, and wearing of traditional dresses.

Khati Festival or Mainao Fwrbw

The Khati Festival in Bodoland is celebrated just like the Kati Bihu Festival which is organized throughout Assam. You can witness this festival during mid-October that basically marks the beginning of the harvest season. During this celebration, all the Bodo families wake up early and light lamps in the house.
