The park covers an extensive area of 39,100 hectares, encompassing both grasslands and semi-evergreen forests.

Manas is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including Bengal tigers, Indian rhinoceros, wild water buffaloes, elephants, clouded leopards, and many species of deer. It’s also famous for its vibrant bird life, with over 500 species of birds recorded. The most unique feature of this wildlife destination is that it is home to around 22 threatened mammals and endemic species such as golden langurs, pygmy hogs, and hispid hares.

This safari helps you to explore the dense areas of the jungle that cannot accessed by a jeep. The Bansbari Zone of Manas is popular for elephant safari which is conducted in 2 slots in the morning.

Jeep safari: You can also witness the diverse flora and fauna of the park by arranging a jeep safari. This is the most effective option to enjoy an immersive and closer look at the forest from a vantage point. The jeep safari zones in Manas are the Bhuyanpara and Bansbari range where safari is conducted on both morning and evening slots.

Best Time to Visit

Manas National Park is open year-round, but the best time to visit is from November to April. During these months, the weather is pleasant, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the park's rich diversity of flora and fauna. It is always recommended to avoid visiting Manas from May to September as the park remains closed in the monsoon season.

How to Reach

The nearest airport to Manas National Park is Rupsi Airport in Sukatikhata, located 171.7 km away by road. Barpeta, the closest town, is just 40 km from the park and has the nearest railway station. Regular bus services from Guwahati are available, operated by both Assam State Transport Corporation and private companies. However, for a more comfortable and time-efficient journey, visitors are encouraged to hire vehicles. The Assam Tourism Development Corporation and various tour operators offer a range of vehicles at reasonable rates, with escort services available if needed.
